Private SSI Open Water Diver course
If you would prefer to do a private course with your own instructor we can put together a customized training programme to suit your schedule.

Children under the age of 12 are advised to do a private course

  • Fully private course – private instruction with two of your open water dives conducted in a local lake and or a local marine reserve  – NZ$1,399 for 1 person, NZ$799 each for 2-3 people, or NZ$699 each for 4 or more people. If you prefer we can also run this course off your own boat.
  • A part private/part group course – private instruction for your theory and pool sessions and then group instruction for your open water dives. Note that in order to do this option the timing of your open water dives must coincide with our group dive course schedule – NZ$749 for 1-3 people, or NZ$649 for 4 or more people.

The SSI Enriched Air Nitrox program will teach you how to safely plan and dive with enriched air mixtures of up to 40% oxygen. Diving with enriched air can increase your no-decompression limits, increase your safety, and reduce the required length of your surface intervals when compared to air.

You will earn the SSI Enriched Air Nitrox 32% certification after completing this program.

It's a great weekend away, most students find it easier to stay there we have accommodation options available.

To dive you must be medically fit, please look at the medical questionnaire if there are any YES marked you will then need to be signed off by a physician (page 2) however if all NO we are good to go.

We provide the scuba equipment (BCD, regulators, tank, weights and 7ml wet suit) we recommend you provide your own mask, fins and snorkel, if you don't have your own these items you can use our hire gear $50 for the duration of your course, however you will just need to give me a heads up on foot size.

A Scuba Skills Update provides you with the opportunity to review and practice necessary scuba skills that you learned in your original Open Water Diver program under the guidance of an SSI Dive Professional. The Scuba Skills Update is often a required for continuing your diving training after a long period of time away from the sport.

You will be issued an SSI Scuba Skills Update recognition card.

Included in this course is online training, a confined water pool session at Taupo AC Baths pools and 2 open water dives in Lake Taupo

Blue ocean Clean up dive in Lake Taupo!

The Blue Oceans movement supports the conservation and sustainable use of aquatic environments, including oceans, seas, coasts, and waterways and their magnificent diversity of plant and animal species,

Scuba divers, free divers and shore crew all needed! Be prepared to get wet and dirty!

There will be a sausage sizzle and prize competition for most interesting find and a number of spot prizes, donated by our amazing sponsors so be sure to come along and help out.

DATE: Sunday 22nd November 2020.

LOCATION: Acacia Bay, Lake
TIMES:
12pm - Registrations open - ALL PARTICIPANTS, SHORE CREW AND DIVERS, MUST REGISTER ON ARRIVAL.
1pm - Safety Briefing
1.30pm - Divers in the water (45 min max dive time)
2.30pm Sorting trash into recycling piles and sausage sizzle

3.30pm - Prize giving 

4pm Clean-up and pack down. 

This will be at Taupo Lake, shore based clean up targeting rubbish and things that don't belong

Scuba Divers who wish to participate must have a minimum of 10 logged and be comfortable working in low visibility, you will need to bring your dive certification (NO CERT NO DIVE)
Dive shack Taupo can provide any hire equipment at $10 a tank or air fills

We will be giving out catch bags but If you also have your own or float boats for collecting rubbish, please bring this along and ensure they are named.

If you would like to join in the fun and participate as part of the shore crew, you will need to make sure you are wearing fully covered shoes and bring a pair of gardening gloves....... also be prepared to get down and dirty!

 PLEASE NOTE:
• This is a free family friendly event, but children must be supervised at all times by an adult.
• Closed toe footwear must be worn for safety.
• Please bring your own hand protection (gardening gloves or similar).
• Don’t forget your own water bottle and bring sunscreen if it’s a warm day.
• Dress for the weather (warm clothes and jackets) – we go ahead rain or shine.
• There will also be plenty of work for non-divers to get involved.

If this event is cancelled due to weather, notification will be given on the Facebook page, the day before.

Most people assume that the Advanced Adventurer Course is for 'advanced' divers and that they need vast amounts of dive experience to take part. In essence this course is aimed at the not just the experienced diver but also at the new diver.

This course is designed to maximise your in-water learning (there's no classroom learning or exams), and it's a great way to get more dives under your belt while continuing to learn under the supervision of one of our experienced instructors, so that by the time you have finished the course you will be a better and safer diver.

You will be introduced to a range of different diving types under varying conditions so it's a great way to get a taste of the various Specialty courses that you can undertake to continue your diving education.

This program allows you to experience five different open water dives from five SSI Specialty programs without requiring you to complete the entire Specialty. If you are unsure of your next step, this is the perfect way to advance your dive skills and experience, and to identify which Specialty programs interest you. You will earn the SSI Advanced Adventurer certification after completing this program.

Course overview:

Included: Accommodation, meals, 4 boat dives, 1 shore dive in the Bay of Islands 

The course consists of five dives that cover five different aspects of diving specialties. Each of these aspects has a short academic session that needs to be completed before the dives.

On the course you will these five dives:

  • Deep Diving - this dive will be up to a depth of 30m
  • Navigation Diving - you will learn natural and compass navigation skills
  • Perfect Buoyancy - this dive will improve your buoyancy skills so that you have more control and also better air consumption.
  • Fish Identification - Discovering fish families and spotting the differences between them

Before you start your course.
  • You must fill out a medical questionnaire to check whether you are fit to dive.
  • You have to complete the theory course before the in-water training begins, this takes about 10 hours for the online theory.
  • You need to be able to swim 200 meters continuously.
  • You need to be able to float or tread water for 10 minutes.
  • A minimum age of 10 years applies.
  • Every student under 18 needs to have a parent or a guardian sign a consent form.
  • Students younger than 15 years of age will attain a Junior Open Water Scuba Diver certification which has some restrictions. (10 and 11 year olds can only dive with a dive professional, parent or guardian with a dive certification to a maximum of 12 metres).
